RE: IM Plug-in not displaying data

I tested the IM plug-in recently, and it worked for me. Do you have a trace file you can share with us that has IM packets in it?

RE: Custom EventFinder Events

You cannot define custom eventfinder events, but you can write plug-ins that process and generate notifications.

Processing existing expert event notifications is a powerful way to create meta-events, that require some number of expert events to be generated before a meta-event is generated.

New Python OmniEngine Script

We have posted a new python script called rcapture.py to the OmniScript page that can create, start, stop, and delete captures with filters. It is in a zip file that is the source download for the OmniScript API Installer. It does require that latest version of OmniScript. Also, if you were already ...

RE: Add a "C# Form" to Peeks' "Tools-Tab"

Sure. One way is to create the C# GUI as a COM Object. The plug-in wizard has an option to generate sample code to demonstrate this.

RE: Control the Start-/ Stop Capture Button by plugin

Hi Chris, Yes, you can start and stop captures by pro grammatically pushing the start/stop capture button. Here is some code: CWnd* pParent = m_Tab.GetParent(); pParent = pParent->GetParent(); pParent = pParent->GetParent(); pParent->PostMessage( WM_COMMAND, 32785 ); This code assumes you have creat...

OmniPeek 6.5 is aware of WLCCP. What version of OmniPeek do you have?

RE: ProtoSpecDefs

OmniPeek 6.5 recognizes WLCCP as PSpecID 4713. Download 6.5 and you can test a packet using DoIsDescendentOf(), or one of the other protospec callbacks available in the plug-in API.

RE: RemoteAdapter Plugin does not capture any packets

Verify that Analysis Modules is enabled for that capture. Also verify that when the capture is running, that a process is listening in port 5000. This is done using netstat -a. If the plugin is enabled, and listening on port 5000, then add logging to your code to out when data shows up in the recv()...

RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Unable to add a column to th

I checked the OmniPeek code. Look like I was wrong. That value is the size of the buffer, not the length of the string. It does not look like you need to specify the length of the string. It must do a strlen() on what you give.

RE: RE: RE: Memory footprint

Yes. As you open and close captures over time, OmniPeek will consume more memory. This is not because it is leaking memory, but rather it is the nature of the beast. Maybe it is memory fragmentation, or something like that. The same thing happens with apps like IE and FireFox. Sooner or later, they ...

RE: Memory footprint

This may seem obvious, but the best way tell whether a plug-in is leaking memory is to run OmniPeek with your plug-in in the VS debugger. When you quit OmniPeek, the Output tab in the debugger will display a list of the objects that were leaked. If you have enabled memory leak debugging, it will act...

I think it needs to be set. Maybe there is random value in there?

RE: Adding multiple tabs

Hi gdvc84. Yes, you need a CTabParent for each tab. Here is a sample from the Roaming plug-in, which creates 3 tabs: // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // Init // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- int CRoamingCon...

RE: RE: RE: RE: Unable to add a column to the packet list

Thanks gdvc84! matman13, is you call DoSetPacketListColumn() from within the context object, you do not have to pass the context pointer. Once you created the column, were you able to put stuff in it? Here is a sample: // ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- /...

RE: Plugin Development

Vasanth and I talked on the phone. Turns out that he is building the plug-in in debug mode on a machine with Visual Studio, and then moving it to a different machine with OmniPeek, that does not have Visual Studio on it. This won't work because the OmniPeek machine does not have the debug runtime li...
