Collecting Node Stats from an OmniEngine using OmniScript

In other posts, we have demonstrated how to connect to and create captures in an OmniEngine from a script. Here, we have some code to get the node stats for a particular capture. This is how we do it in OmniMapper, where we aggregate nodes from multiple OmniEngine, and map them to the Google Map. #i...

Automating an OmniEngine using Perl

Below is a Perl script that will create a capture from a capture template. The capture template also specifies a filter that is dynamically loaded as well. use Win32::OLE; $os = Win32::OLE->new('EPRCmdAPI.WPRemoteCmdMgr'); $os->Connect("127.0.0.1", 6367, 30000 ); $xf = Win32::OLE->new('Mic...

How to write a decode over ethernet

So you write a protocol that runs over Ethernet, and you would like to see it in OmniPeek as a real decode (instead of just hex). It is easy to do, and there are many reasons to do it. Most people don't realize how valuable and productive it is to have a decoder for their protocol until they have on...

RE: Re: RE: RE: RE: naming protocols using PRTO

When you select a layer in the decode view, the collapsed version of that layer will be displayed in the decode column. The fields of the layer that are displayed are the ones which the author of the decode provided a short label for for. The caveat is that the short label is a fairly new decoder la...

RE: RE: How can I get RATE of each 802.11 packet in plug-in

Hi frog,

You are right on with your example. Taking it from there, just use prMediaSpecificHeader to access the datarate field like this:

UInt8 nDataRate = prMediaSpecificHeader->wireless.DataRate;

RE: How does the F flag get set?

Yes, a faster processor and more memory always helps. For the highest performance capture possible, you may want to look at our Linux based Omnipliance.

RE: Re: RE: How does the F flag get set?

You are right on Larry. If capture performance is the highest priority, start turning off analysis options during capture, capture the packets, and do the actual analysis post capture. The Expert in particular is a major consumer of CPU cycles, resulting in dropped packets.

RE: console automation with multiple capture

We do not have a sample of a Perl Script using the Peek COM API yet. Can you share? We also do not have a sample of a Perl Script using OmniScript yet. We are happy to help you along the way, if you decide to script in Perl against the OmniEngine. From what you have said so far, I think you will lik...

RE: How does the F flag get set?

OmniPeek periodically asks the driver how many packets have been dropped.

RE: RE: RE: RE: console automation with multiple capture tem

I got your working script to work. It looks like the point of it is to control the capture using peek.cfg. Pretty cool. My recommendation going forward is to upgrade to OmniEngine for your captures, and automate it using OmniScript. Like the Peek COM API, OmniScript is also COM based, so you can use...

RE: RE: console automation with multiple capture templates

Hi gpreston,

I always like to start with something that works. How about starting with something simpler, and adding to that? That way, you can tell us specifically what is wrong.
