Linksys AE6000 802.11ac capture support

Postby ycchangtw » Wed Dec 04, 2013 8:37 pm

I saw the demostration of 802.11ac frame capture on Wildpackets Web site. we have purchased wildpackets 7.5 and have a linksys ae6000 dongle. Where can I get customized driver and reproduce the demostration? I have tried the ralink beta driver @ mypeek, it appears as "Wildpackets conceptronic nano wireless 150Mbps USB Adapter. Meanwhile, in the capture setting page, the availiable channel list didn't include the keyword ac, only an, u4, n40l, b/g/n)

First of all, you will need OmniPeek 7.8 for 802.11ac capture. This is not supported in OmniPeek 7.5.

The driver is beta only and can be downloaded here:

ftp://wpupload:packetup@wps-ftp.wildpac ... .0.7.9.zip

I have the AE6000 and have Omnipeek 7.9.1 on a Windows 7 machine.

I have loaded the 32-bit railnk driver (5.0.7.7) (as my Win 7 is 32bit). But, the adapter never appears as one of the wireless adapters in the Omnipeek adapter list. My existing Ethernet adapter and internal wireless adapter appear OK, but no other adapters appear.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where I may be going wrong here please - it's driving me nuts :)

Thanks

Nigel.

It appears that the driver has not been installed properly, as we have many customers using this driver and adapter in beta successfully. Please contact support as they have a detailed document for installing this driver.

We see you have contacted Support, so they will provide you with the beta Ralink driver and installation instructions. The maintenance on your copy of software has expired.

Is there beta driver update to solve the problem of LDPC encoding? We are looking for to the release otherwise our sniffer plus wild packet will not be useful

The driver is from Ralink. They have yet to release a shipping driver that solves the LDPC issue. It must be disabled on the AP, and this is usually not possible on consumer-type units.

Question:
Is LDPC implemented in hardware or software? I thought LDPC required special hardware and requires support at the hardware (chip) level. In that case, updating drivers would not solve the issue with the AE6000 not capturing data frames.

Observation:
I installed the Windows 7 drivers for the AE6000, and then performed a WiFi capture of the AE6000 connecting to an AP that supports LDPC over 11ac. I observed that the AE6000 did not support LDPC over 11ac.
