Netgear WN511T Wireless sniffing in promiscuous mode?

Postby tempie23 » Fri Feb 01, 2008 4:58 pm

I have successfully installed this card in a Vista x32 machine with the Marvell Drivers available on WP's site... OmniPeek does show that this card is supported by the WP API.

However when doing wireless captures all I am seeing is broadcast packets; even on an unencrypted Linksys AP. I would expect I would be seeing all packets on the channel I am capturing on?

Am I missing something? I don't see any mention of promiscuous mode in the Marvell drivers?

Check AP Configuration

The traffic you will see will depend on the configuration of the AP and the network environment in which it is deployed. Do a channel scan to see which channels are being used. Check the WLAN tab for details on all of the APs and clients that are being monitored. Broadcasts are huge part of wireless networking. You will only see unicast traffic if two devices are associated with the AP and are communicating with each other.
