OmniPeek Product Family Wireless Drivers Page

Postby brenny » Thu May 29, 2008 1:39 pm

Hi

On the OmniPeek Product Family Wireless Drivers page
there are drivers for the Ralink 'Ralink USB Driver a/b/g/n ralink_usb2870'.

The driver is available via 'MyPeek' the WildPackets community portal.

I downloaded the driver via 'MyPeek' and 'windows XP' doesn't accept it as a valid driver.

That is the 'inf' file doesn't contain information about the device.

Omnipeek specifies that these are 'Compatible Wireless Adapters and Drivers'

Perhaps I have done something wrong as regards installation but at the moment I am at a loss

So, do the drivers on the OmniPeek download page actually work or am I missing something as regards installation

STATS: Win XP Pro SP3 OmniPeek 5.1 Ralink USB 2870

Thank you in advance for any help and information

Brenny

The Ralink driver is supplied as a courtesy to WP customers specifically for use with the Linksys WUSB 600N adapter. If you have this adapter and are having problems, please contact Ralink, as it is their driver and it is not directly supported by WildPackets.

Thank You for your prompt reply

It was my understanding that a chipset is a chipset i.e. regardless of manufacturer and or dealer.

If the drivers provided through 'MyPeek' are specific to an individual manufacturer (Linksys) then I think it is
only fair that this is made clear to the customer prior to download.

It should state 'Compatible Wireless Adapters and Drivers - Linksys Only'

I have been in touch with Ralink Technology, Corp. and they are of the opinion that there shouldn't be a problem.

However, I have spent many a long night fighting with the vagaries of a particular chipset, even within revisions!

I won't expend further time on it notwithstanding that you should make these things clear.

Once again, thank you for your prompt attention

Take care

Brenny

Your points are well-taken. WP just combined WPDN and MyPeek, so there are some things that need to be corrected. Most of the supported adapters are listed on our driver page, but the recent Ralink addition neglects to mention the supported drivers. Here is that list:

Linksys WUSB600N V2
D-Link Xtreme N Duo USB Adapter DWA-160
Belkin F5D8013
Belkin F5D8073

All of the rest can be found here:

http://www.wildpackets.com/support/downloads/drivers

Thank you for your input and WP apologizes for any inconvenience.

Excellent!

Thank you for that mini-list; the D-Link Xtreme and the Belkin F5D8073 are in our inventory!

As a bit of background we work in rural areas in the UK; yes we really do stick USB,s at the focal point of satellite dishes!

USB sticks are just more convenient for that type of work.

OmniPeek seems to garner more information than any other product given the same specs'.

Hence our frustration when it doesn't seem to work as planned.

A lot happier now, smiley faces all round!

Your assistance is appreciated

cheers

Brenny
