Capturing packets without going into monitor mode

Postby megamall » Sat Jul 04, 2009 3:29 pm

I'm using an Intel Centrino 3945abg card on Windows XP SP3 using Omnipeek 6.0.2.

Currently I'm trying to monitor traffic in and out of this very computer over the Wireless Network connection. I'm interested only in monitoring the packets in and out of this computer. I'm not interested in capturing all the wireless packets that are going around in the air. So I'm wondering if there is an option to set omnipeek to not go into monitor mode. So that I can monitor the ethernet layer while staying connected.

Now every time omnipeek starts, it switches my wireless card into monitor mode, which results in disconnection, which cuts off my network connection...

You cannot use a wireless card for either monitor or capture without this occurring. This is the way OmniPeek gets information from the adapter.
