D-link dwa-160 B2 can't capture packets

Postby flyingcow » Mon Apr 09, 2012 1:28 am

I use Omnipeek 6.6.1 demo, and install ralink_usb2870 driver, but I can't capture any packet. My device is D-link dwa-160( h/w ver: B2).

Yes in appears that D-Link has changed drivers again. This unit uses a Ralink 5572 chipset and we are looking into getting a new driver from Ralink.

Ok! When could you get the new driver?

We will post it when we receive it from Ralink.

I've met the same problem, I got a Dlink dwa-160 Rev.B2 adapter, and I download the wildpackets driver, then I found it couln'd install directly, with modify the inf file, add the hardware ID : USB\Vid_2001&Pid_3c1a, it can be installed, but it won't work correctly, and the Omnipeek capture nothing with this.

I really hope wildpackets support this adapter ASAP, thanks a lot!

I came through the same problem, too. DWA-160 is much easier to get than other adapters supported by Omnipeek. Hope WildPackets will come up with a solution ASAP.

P.S. When are you expecting to support DWA-160 Rev. B2?

Running into the same issue. We purchased the DWA-160 but wasn't aware that we'd be getting the Rev. B2 version.

Hope this is resolved soon. I need to use this product!

I am having a problem with the DWA-160 Rev. B2 as well. The Ralink USB 2870 driver available through MyPeek is not seen as the correct driver for the adapter in Windows.

I can force load the driver for either device type (mini and regular) and Windows will show the adapter is initialized but I cannot view or join any wireless networks. When attempting to run a capture in OmniPeek 6.6, no packets are captured.

As a test I used a Proxim 8470-WD card with the Aetheros drivers provided with Omnipeek 6.6. Windows detects and loads the drivers without error, I am able to view and join wireless networks and can capture packets. This does not solve my problem as the DWA-160 usb adapters are ABGN capable where the 8470-WD is only BG.

D-Link changed to a different chipset for the B2 adapter (RT5572). When Ralink releases a driver that will work with OmniPeek, we will make it available for download. Since WildPackets does not make the adapter or the driver, we do not have control over the release of new drivers.
