Omnipliance and OmniPeek 7.5

Postby matt_5710 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:10 am

I am not familiar with the Omnipliance Recorder, but the "What's New in Omni 7.5" document discusses improved capture-to-disk performance in OmniPeek that allows all packets to be stored for post-capture analysis. Is this post-capture storage on a capturing OmniPeek PC's hard-drive for Omnipliance/Peek to analyze, or is this capture on the Omnipliance only?
The document says "all packets", are these all pre-filter packets, or are they all post-filter packets?

Thank you.

I think you are referring to the Omnipliance, as the Readme for OmniPeek 7.5 does not reference this. The improved capture to disk performance is related to the Omnipliance, not OmniPeeek:

What's New in OmniPeek 7.5

Data captures from locally–attached or remote APs – Remote Pcap support
Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) support
Enhanced 802.11ac analysis
Enhanced roaming analysis
Enhanced wireless aggregation features
Interactive channels and WLAN views in Compass
New and enhanced decodes

Refer this link:
http://www.wildpackets.com/products/whats_new_in_omni

The end of the document says:
" With OmniPeek v7.5, Omnipliance capture-to-disk performance now exceeds 7Gbps, making it an excellent choice for analysis of just about any network segment in your infrastructure. "
As I mentioned I am not familiar with Omnipliance, but I gather with the reference to OmniPeek V7.5 and Omnipliance there is an interaction between the two. Is that correct?

Correct. OmniPeek is the client used to access the Omnipliance. 7Gbps is referencing a remote capture using this distributed system. The capture is running on the appliance, not on OmniPeek.
